“Lucie de Lammermoor” at the Donizetti Theater in Bergamo

On November 26, 2023 the opera "Lucie de Lammermoor" debuts at the Donizetti Theater in Bergamo.

Lucie de Lammermoor is the French version of Lucia di Lammermoor, one of Gaetano Donizetti's great successes composed in 1835 with a libretto by Salvadore Cammarano. After the triumph of the Italian original, in 1839 Donizetti created a new version for the French public with the translation and reworking of the libretto by Alphonse Royer and Gustave Vaëz.

The plot remains the same, with some changes: the characters of Alisa and Normanno are united in Gilbert, while the groom Arturo appears already in the first act. Donizetti also intervened on the music, with many cuts and simplifications.

For this new production of the Donizetti Opera Festival, the musical direction is entrusted to Pierre Dumoussaud, the direction is Jacopo Spirei and the scenes are by Mauro Tinti. The protagonist in the title role is the soprano Caterina Sala. The Gli Originali Orchestra and the Accademia della Scala Chorus complete the cast, for a new production by the Donizetti Theater Foundation in co-production with the Teatro Comunale of Bologna.
