Ali Cherri's "Dreamless Night" exhibition at GAMeC in Bergamo

The GAMeC, Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art of Bergamo will present the personal exhibition of the Lebanese artist and director Ali Cherri entitled "Dreamless Night" from 8 October 2023 to 14 January 2024, created in collaboration with the In Between Art Film Foundation and Frac Bretagne.

The exhibition, curated by Alessandro Rabottini and Leonardo Bigazzi, will be the largest retrospective dedicated to the artist to date and will present multimedia works including films, video installations, drawings and sculptures. The unpublished work at the center of the project is the video "The Watchman", set in Cyprus, which addresses issues such as political and cultural conflicts and the legacies of historical trauma. GAMeC's Spazio Zero will also host a new series of drawings by Cherri and an installation inspired by the film.

The itinerary continues on the first floor with new sculptures that recall the characters and iconography of "The Watchman", in which the artist highlights the fragility of ideologies of power. The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalog published by Lenz Press with contributions from important international curators and critics, and the inauguration on 8 October will be open free of charge to the public from 7pm to 10pm.
