"Il Diluvio Universale" at the Donizetti Theater in Bergamo

On November 17, 2023, "The Universal Flood", an opera by Gaetano Donizetti with a libretto by Domenico Gilardoni, will be performed at the Donizetti Theater in Bergamo.

It is a work on a sacred subject composed in 1830 for the San Carlo Theater in Naples. The libretto is inspired by the tragedy "Il diluvio" by Francesco Ringhieri with the addition of elements from Byron and Moore.

The work tells the story of Noah who, having heard of the universal flood that God is about to unleash, builds an ark outside the city of Sennaar to save himself and his family.

For this new production of the Donizetti Opera Festival, the musical director Riccardo Frizza takes to the podium of the Donizetti Opera Orchestra. The show is entrusted to Masbedo who proposes a reflection on the environmental emergency through this work based on the first natural cataclysm in history.
