A new hub for contemporary art in Bergamo

The former Grès factory in San Bernardino represents an important example of urban regeneration in Bergamo, now transformed into the "gres art 671" cultural center. The complex, which developed in the Colognola district between the early 1900s and the mid-1970s, was originally the site of a factory owned by the Austrian Società del Gres, a major producer of ceramic stoneware materials operating in Italy since 1887. Covering an area of about 60,000 m², the site included offices, two warehouses, storage facilities, and service structures, to which, in the 1950s, housing for employees designed by Albini and Helg was added.

After its closure in 2012 and an initial recovery project in 2016 with the creation of the IceLab ice rink, the project leading to the creation of gres art 671 began in 2022. This cultural center, promoted by the Pesenti Foundation, was conceived to blend beauty with social impact, creating a space dedicated to leisure and culture where people can meet and participate in various cultural initiatives, ranging from exhibitions to musical events, from performances to educational workshops. The redevelopment has consciously preserved the character and memory of the industrial site, respecting its historical layers while transforming it into a contemporary space. Even the name "671" maintains a connection to the site's roots, referring to the number of the state road that runs alongside the area.
